It is very important to know how to share road with trams in Melbourne. Melbourne trams are world famous. The following video may helpful to you understand the basic rules and make the road safe.


Important points to remember
  • If a tram is going to stopping at a tram stop, you should stop you vehicle level with the rear of the tram. Wait untile doors are closed and passengers have cleared the road. If you are overtaking a stationary tram, your speed should not be over 10km/h.
  • You can pass a tram which is stopped in safety zone at safe speed.
  • Do not drive over the double yellow lines and raised median strip unless to pass a obstacle.
  • Do not drive on the tram path which has a sign with a image of a tram and the word only. 
  • Do not make U turn over the double yellow lines and raised median stip.
  • Giveaway to Trams at roundabout.
  • Do not move into the path of the tram.
  • You are not allowed to park within 20m of the tram stop.
